Larry’s Lookout wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for a puppy and a broken knee. Yes, that’s right.
It all began in the spring of 2017. A mishap with an overly happy puppy led to Larry breaking his leg. The days of recovery were long; it was early April and Larry needed to get out of the house. He invited a group of friends to accompany him on a springtime drive through beautiful Buffalo County. Their first stop was Hansen’s Hold-Up, a unique bar with a western flair that had been a mainstay in the community for the previous 20 years. Larry was on crutches, but that didn’t stop him from taking in the breathtaking views out back. He owns a unique outdoor restaurant about an hour north outside of Maiden Rock, WI, and his place has a great view, too. Situated at the bottom of a valley on the edge of a small river, looking up at beautiful tree-lined bluffs, you find Vino in the Valley. This time the view was from above the valley.
Little did we know at the time that Larry’s admiration of that view would lead to another location “above” the valley. Yes, it was love at first sight and in a matter of just a few weeks negotiations began to sell Hansen’s Hold-Up to Larry Brenner. His dream… Two separate businesses. Larry’s Lookout would take over the current bar while Vino Over the Valley, a sister restaurant to his already successful Vino in the Valley, would be built on the other side of the property. His vision… To recreate the good vino, good view and good vibes his current establishment is known for, here above the valley. A place where you come for the experience, and then stay for dinner.
Be sure to stop in and meet Larry sometime. You’ll quickly be inspired by his sense of humor, kind spirit, and enthusiasm for creating unique experiences his customers love. Get ready folks, you’re about to make a new and very special friend.
